During ICCyber 2006, dozens of lectures were presented and several practical cases were discussed, enabling knowledge to be spread and experiences to be exchanged among the participants. Over 700 participants and law enforcement personnel from the following 21 countries attended the conference: South Africa, Germany, Angola, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Spain, United States, France, England, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Japan, Switzerland and Uruguay. The quality of the lectures from internationally recognized speakers and the presence of law enforcement representatives from several nations guaranteed high technical quality of the event and a global exchange of Forensic Computer Science knowledge and experiences.
The third edition of ICCyber was held simultaneously with the first Conference of Forensic Computer Science (ICoFCS), which is targeted at the more technical and scientific aspects of Forensic Computer Science, and served as a forum where criminalists, forensic scientists, police officers, attorneys, researchers, students and other Information Security professionals that are actively engaged in cyber crime investigations to publish and exhibit their practices and research (see the of the proceedings of the ICoFCS 2006).
During the conference the Brazilian Federal Police launched the The International Journal of Forensic Computer Science (IJoFCS), a peer-reviewed journal devoted to publishing original papers, commentaries and reviews in the various branches of Forensic Computer Science. The journal's goal is to achieve an editorial balance among technique, theory, practice and commentary, serving as a new medium for the international scientific community, research centers, law enforcement agencies and technical/scientific departments of agencies in charge of cyber prosecution procedures. The journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research reports freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
